Two ratings, and the reasons between them.
Scouting report
The Hollow Oak, Bristol
An invented hotel. No real business is described by this report.Strike it again
Read the specimen reportWhat it costs
Avanti Scout reads the reviews of a hotel, a restaurant, a product or a local firm, sets aside the ones that show signs of manipulation or are about something else, and shows the rating that remains beside the platform’s own.
What each punch answers
An assay office strikes a row of separate marks into a piece of silver, each answering one question, and never says the piece is beautiful. A Scout Rating is struck the same way.
Who tested it
The assay mark. Nobody whose reviews are tested pays for it, chooses it or can change it.
3.8
What the reviews are worth
The Scout Rating: the same reviews with the doubtful ones set aside. The shape of its frame is how sure the report is, so the confidence survives a black and white printout.
4.5
What the platform says
The platform’s own average, set quietly beside the Scout Rating so that the gap is read rather than announced.
214
How much it rests on
How many reviews were counted. Where too few remain to form a view, the report says so and shows no number at all.
AUG 26
When it was tested
The date of the run, struck last, so every rating carries its age and a reader can tell an old test from a new one.
What it does
Look it up
Paste a link, scan a barcode, or share a listing from another app on your phone. Every way in leads to the same listing and the same report.
Read what was set aside
Open every review that was set aside, grouped by the signal behind it, each with its reason in plain words. If you think one is genuine, flag it for Scout staff to look at again. A flag never changes the rating by itself.
Then and now
Where the reviews show that a place or a product changed, a new owner, a new chef, a refurbishment, a revised model, the report marks the moment and lets you read the reviews either side of it.
Discover
Describe what you want in plain words. Every result says why it matched, and every list says how many listings were considered.
Compare a short list
Put up to four listings side by side, with the things you care about first. Your priorities change the order you read in, never a score.
Watch
Watch a listing and be told when the picture changes. When nothing has changed, nothing is sent.
On the page you are reading
On Booking.com, Tripadvisor, Trustpilot and Google Maps, the browser extension sets the Scout mark beside the platform’s own stars.
What it will never do
These are not omissions. They are the boundary the product sits on, and they are permanent.
- No business can pay to change a score, soften a finding, suppress a report, be included, or be placed higher in a result. There is no commercial route into the analysis.
- No advertising, on any surface, at any tier, ever.
- No hosting or collecting of reviews. Becoming another place to write one would create the problem this product exists to detect.
- No review removal, no reputation management, and no service sold to a business that changes what a buyer sees.
- No accusation. A finding describes a pattern in a body of reviews, names its signal and gives its count. It is never a verdict on a review, a business or a person.
And it shows its working
The published methodology says how the Scout Rating relates to the platform’s, what each confidence word means, and the fairness standard every version must clear before it may serve anything. It is written for a careful reader rather than for a data scientist.
